GEM Ambassador Programme
Share your GEM experience
Would you like to help future students understand what it is really like to study in GEM? The GEM ambassador programme brings together current students and alumni who are willing to share their experience of the programme, mobility, student life, and the move into further study or work. Their accounts help prospective students make informed choices and help GEM build links across cohorts, partner locations, and its alumni community.
What do GEM ambassadors do?
Ambassadors may join informal question-and-answer sessions, webinars, open days, fairs, or other outreach activities. They may also contribute testimonials, blog posts, short videos, or day-in-the-life stories. Ambassadors speak from their own experience. They do not give official advice on admissions, selection, scholarships, visas, assessment, or regulations; the GEM administration handles those questions.
How does this relate to EMA?
The GEM ambassador programme is run by GEM. It is separate from the formal volunteer roles of the Erasmus Mundus Association (EMA). The GEM EMA Programme Representative links GEM students, alumni, coordinators, and EMA, while EMA Country Representatives support the wider Erasmus Mundus community in their countries. The roles complement each other, and GEM coordinates with its EMA Programme Representative to keep responsibilities and referral routes clear.
Who can become an ambassador?
We welcome expressions of interest from second-year GEM students who have completed at least one mobility period and from GEM alumni. Each GEM partner also nominates potential ambassadors for the programme to approach. Nomination does not create an obligation to take part. We aim for a group that reflects the range of GEM partner institutions, study pathways, regions, and backgrounds.
What support and recognition will you receive?
Ambassadors receive a short induction, clear guidance on what they may answer and where to refer other questions, communication materials, and support from the GEM team and partner contacts. The GEM EMA Programme Representative contributes guidance on EMA roles and routes. GEM recognises completed contributions through a certificate or letter and, where suitable, acknowledgement at a GEM event. Approved costs may be supported where funds allow.
What is the commitment?
The role is voluntary and designed to fit around study or work. As a guide, ambassadors contribute to two to four activities per year and, where possible, one short item of content. Student ambassadors are normally involved from their second year until twelve months after graduation. Alumni appointments are normally for two years and may be renewed by agreement.
